  • Create the illusion that someone is at your house

The perfect time for burglars to strike is when nobody is at home. These individuals will always take their time to study your movement and schedule to determine the best time to strike. While going out, always create an illusion that someone is at home. You can leave the stereo on in a room near the front door or other entry points such as windows or side doors.   • Store cash, jewelry and other valuables in a safe or safety deposit box

Keep only the cash you need at home. If you must keep cash at home, make sure they are securely deposited in a box away from prying eyes. Same goes with valuables.

  • Don’t leave notes on the door for others when you’re not there

Never create an impression which will announce your absence from the house. If you must, drop a message directly on the person’s phone number or email.

  • Adjust your telephone ring to its lowest volume setting

If you are going to be away from home for a couple of days, make sure you adjust the phone volume to the lowest. This is because an unanswered phone may signal burglars about your absence.
